Area runners have advantage - Myrtle Beach OnlinePublished by
The area's elite cross country runners will converge this Saturday for the South Carolina Cross Country championships. The teams and individuals who qualified for the state meet out of last weekend's Lower State qualifiers will compete at Sandhills Research Center in northeast Columbia. The meet begins at 9 a.m. with Class AAA, followed by Class AAAA, Class A and Class AA. Several area teams will have the advantage of familiarity since the Lower State qualifiers in Class AAA, AA and A were held on the state championship course. That may help lessen some of the geographic advantages that the Upper State schools have due to their ability to more often train hills.
