SCHSL - Trio of area runners finish in top 10 at state cross country finalsPublished by
From staff reports COLUMBIA -- Three area runners earned top-10 finishes Saturday in the South Carolina Cross Country Championships at Sandhills Research Park. Waccamaw's Kaitlyn Matthews (20:44) and Aynor's Meghan Weisen (20:53) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the girls' Class A/AA 5k run, while Andrews' Miguel Omedo-Pulido (17:15) was eighth in the boys' Class AA 5k race. Along with Matthews, Grace Barnett (43rd, 22:26) and Mary Catherine Loftus (45th, 22:30) helped the Warriors finish eighth in the team standings. Other boys finishing in the top 50 in Class AA included: Andrews' Juan Olmedo-Pulido (33rd, 18:18), Waccamaw's Jaz Greene (39th, 18:30), Aynor's DeAngelo Smith (40th, 18:33) and Loris' Chris Chavis (49th, 18:40).
