UNC Recruit Ava Dobson Cruises To State Meet Record 16:58 By Mary Albl of DyeStat For St. Joseph’s Ava Dobson, history had to wait a few extra days. Originally scheduled for Saturday, weather postponed the South Carolina State High School Cross Country to Tuesday. Dobson made sure to make the most of her last state meet as the senior repeated as the 2A/1A champion in a meet record time of 16 minutes, 58.23 seconds at the Carolina Cup Facility in Camden. The University of North Carolina commit won the race by more than a minute and 30 seconds, helping lead her team to a second place finish. The team title went to Greer Middle College Charter with 52 points. Junior Noah Ward of Philip Simmons repeated as the 2A champion in 15:36.84, while the Greer Middle College Charter made it a program sweep, barely edging out Philip Simmons, 62-64. Sophomore Daniel Boyd led Dxie to a 1A state title, winning the race in 17:36.69. Dixie captured three of the top four spots. Woodruff junior Maggie Rhodes continued her impressive streak, winning her fourth straight 3A title in 19:19.13. The Seneca girls repeated as 3A champs with 52 points. Sophomore Ronan O'Neill of Pendleton won the 3A title in 15:58.92, while May River placed three runners in the top nine to easily claim the team title. While another runner from Daniel claimed the top honor in the 4A race, senior Mari Cagle Lockhart (18:16.94), it was the Hilton Head girls dethroning Daniel with 61 points to win the team title. Senior Coen Roberts helped guide Greer to a 4A team title as he clocked the fastest time of the day in 15:04.16. Greer had four runners in the top nine and all five in the top 25. Junior Katie Pou of Nation Ford ran 18:19.39 to win the 5A individual title, while J.L. Mann scored 88 points to claim the team title. The Dorman boys repeated as 5A champs, edging out T.L. Hanna, 97-102. Cane Bay senior Zane Jackson won the race in 15:18.42. Team Champions Class AAAAA: Dorman boys 97 points; J.L.
